Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
At Rise Up Health we are proud to offer Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, an innovative service that harnesses the power of your body’s own natural healing abilities. PRP therapy is a cutting-edge, non-surgical procedure that uses concentrated platelets from your blood to promote tissue repair, stimulate cell growth, and enhance healing in various parts of the body.
PRP can be used alone or in combination with other services to improve Skin Health, Joint Health, and Hair Growth to name a few. Continue reading to learn more about how PRP may be right for you or your loved one.
What is PRP Therapy?
PRP therapy involves extracting a small sample of your blood, which is then processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. These platelets, which are rich in growth factors, are injected directly into the area that requires healing. This process stimulates your body’s regenerative processes, accelerating recovery and improving tissue function.
Common Uses of PRP Therapy
-
Sports Injuries: PRP is commonly used to recover from muscle strains, tendonitis, and ligament injuries, helping athletes recover faster and with less pain.
-
Arthritis and Joint Pain: PRP can help reduce inflammation and promote healing in the joints, offering relief for conditions like osteoarthritis.
-
Hair Restoration: PRP is often used in hair restoration to stimulate hair growth and prevent hair loss.
-
Facial Rejuvenation: In aesthetics, PRP can improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, and decrease acne scarring for a smoother, more youthful complexion.

During The Procedure
The PRP therapy process is relatively simple and minimally invasive:
-
Blood Draw: A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm, similar to a routine blood test.
-
Platelet Concentration: The blood is placed in a centrifuge, where it is spun to separate the platelets from other blood components.
-
Injection: The concentrated PRP is injected directly into the target area using a fine needle. Depending on the specific area, local anesthesia may be used to ensure comfort.
The procedure typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour, and you can usually return to normal activities shortly after your injection.
After Your Procedure
-
Recovery from the procedure takes little to no time at all and you should be able to resume your normal activities.
-
The benefits of PRP therapy typically become apparent after a 6 to 8 weeks for joint-related injections
-
You may require repeat injections for maximum effectiveness.
PRP Therapy Risks and Side Effects
PRP joint injections are generally considered low-risk and do not typically result in significant side effects. The procedure involves drawing a small amount of blood, so it’s important to be well-hydrated and have eaten beforehand to avoid feeling lightheaded. After the procedure, some soreness and bruising at the injection site may occur.
Since PRP uses your own blood cells and plasma, the likelihood of an allergic reaction is much lower compared to other injectable treatments like corticosteroids. However, as with any medical procedure, there are some less common risks, including:
-
Bleeding
-
Tissue damage
-
Infection
-
Nerve injury
If you're thinking about PRP injections, it’s essential to discuss the potential benefits and risks with your healthcare provider to ensure it’s the right option for you.
