What’s So Great About IV Hydration?
Part 1
IV hydration and wellness clinics seem to be a popular trend sweeping across America, but why? What’s so great about them and why should you consider getting fluids through an IV? In this series, we will explore how the experience of getting an IV drip works and cover many of its benefits. In today’s blog, we will cover the overall benefits of IV hydration and what your experience might be like.
Hydration is critical for survival and overall health. According to the Texas Health and Human Services website, there are many important role water has in the human body including:
Carries nutrients and oxygen to all cells in the body.
Helps convert food into energy
Lubricates joints.
Regulates body temperature.
Protects and cushions vital organs.
Moistens oxygen for breathing.
Is essential for our senses to work properly.
Is the main property of blood, which carries nutrients to cells and carries waste out of the body.
Is one of the six nutrients essential for life (water, fat, carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals)
The article also goes on to say that, “Your body needs to be hydrated to function at its best. If there isn’t enough liquid in your body, essential functions like circulation does not perform as smoothly and your organs won’t get necessary nutrients, resulting in less efficient performance.”
When receiving an IV infusion your body receives the fluids and vitamins directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system which might otherwise decrease the amount of fluids or vitamins you absorb. Using IV hydration, the fluids and vitamins are available instantly and your body can absorb 100% of what it needs before moving the rest along to your kidneys to be flushed out. It’s important to note that, by receiving IV fluids, your body can quickly receive the hydration and vitamins it so badly needs to obtain optimal wellness.
Your visit to an IV hydration clinic will typically involve resting in a comfortable chair in a clean environment, while the medical provider inserts a small needle and catheter into the vein. The needle is quickly removed, leaving a small catheter. Then a bag of fluids and vitamins attached to a tube will be connected to the IV. The process of running fluids usually lasts 45 minutes to an hour. There are minimal risks to the procedure but, most commonly, you may have some irritation at the site of IV insertion or a bruise. Most people leave feeling refreshed, replenished, and ,unsurprisingly, come back for more. I hope that, by reading this article, you better understand the benefits of receiving an IV drip. Please continue to follow as Part Two will cover additional information about the benefits of IV hydration.
