Vision Boards: Taking meaningful steps to create the life you want

What is a vision board?

A vision board is a visual representation of your aspirations, goals, and dreams. It serves as a reminder of what you want to achieve and helps align your thoughts and actions with your desired outcomes. A vision board should be placed in a location where it will be seen frequently. I have mine hanging in my bathroom on a cabinet that I see frequently.

A vision board can come in a variety of creations and doesn't have to be overly complicated. Anyone can make a vision board. They can be as simple as writing out words or affirmations and placing pasted images to a piece of paper or poster board, a cork board, or, for a more modern approach, use a google doc or other tool to make a digital design that you can print out.

When is the right time to create a vision board?

Anytime really. A lot of people use the winter/new year as a time of reflection and forward thinking, but spring time, a birthday, or maybe a challenge or change in life might lead you to want to create or update your vision board.

Step 1: Getting Started

The best way to get started is to create a time to reflect on the past, present, and future. This can be what you make it and, again, does not need to be overly complicated. Remember, you can always revisit this process. Writing out your ideas as you begin this process is recommended.

What do you want to achieve in different areas of your life? What is the type of person you want to become? When imagining your future self - what does that look like? What are you doing to make things happen for yourself? How will you create good habits and leave the ones that don't support your vision behind?

Here are some common themes that you can include when beginning to brainstorm your vision board

Career

Health / Fitness/ Nutrition

Relationships / Social / Family

Finances

Community Involvement

Spirituality

Travel

Are there any words, phrases, or affirmation that resonate with you during your reflection that will prompt you or motivate you to manifest your desires? Write these down to.

Step 2: Bring your vision board to life,

Gather the necessary supplies.

You'll need a poster board or cork board, magazines, scissors, glue or tape, markers, and any additional decorative materials you want to include, such as stickers or colored paper. Or skip the crafty stuff and just use a digital design tool. Google slides or docs are free and you can snip images from the internet and add text boxes. Canva also has a free version for this as well.

Find Visuals that Resonate with your goals

Search the internet or flip through magazines and cut out images and words that resonate with your goals. Look for visuals that evoke positive emotions and represent the life you envision. Don't limit yourself – be open to unexpected inspirations.

Organize Your Materials

Once you have a collection of images and words, organize them based on your goals. Create categories or sections on your board to represent different areas of your life. This will make it easier to visualize how your goals align with one another.

Experiment with different layouts until you find a composition that feels right to you. Consider the placement of each element in relation to your goals and the overall balance of the board.

Personalize and Enhance Add a personal touch to your vision board by including your own photos or mementos. Use markers to write affirmations or motivational quotes directly on the board. Feel free to get creative – this is a reflection of your aspirations.

Step 3: Display Your Vision Board

Place your completed vision board in a location where you will see it daily. Whether it's in your bedroom, office, or another frequently visited space, make sure it's easily visible. The constant exposure to your vision board will serve as a powerful reminder of your goals and keep you focused on the path to success.

Creating a vision board is a simple yet effective way to manifest your dreams and stay connected to your goals. By taking the time to define your aspirations, gather inspiring visuals, and craft a visually appealing board, you're setting yourself up for success.

Remember, your vision board is a dynamic tool that can evolve as your goals and dreams evolve, so revisit and update it regularly. Happy manifesting!
